At the recent Plast show in Milan, Italy, injection machine manufacturer Italtech (Mazzano, Italy) unveiled its Newton series of presses featuring an innovative toggleless clamping system, reduced maintenance requirements, and lower energy consumption. The series also features a machine control system composed of two industrial PCs—one for machine supervision and the second for managing I/O resources and carrying out adjustment of motion. The connection between the “visualization” PC and the “regulation” PC is made through a TCP/IP connection. Remote supervision is also possible. Clamping forces range from 180-1000 metric tons. Massimo Pegoraro, managing director at Italtech, says, “We see this as a general-purpose machine targeting markets in Italy, Spain, Turkey, Russia, and CIS countries. The machine is 25% shorter, this coming from requests by customers who have shop-floor space issues.” —stephen.moore@cancom.com
