South Of The Border (Mexico) Petstar Opens Mucho Grande Recycling Plant Using Italian Machinery From AMUT S.p.A.

A 30,000-ton-per-year bottle-to-bottle facility has recently come on-line in Mexico. Operated by Petstar S.A. de C.V., a subsidiary of Avangard Innovative Plastics, the new facility will take in plastic from Avangard Mexico's collection network and recycle it into food-grade resin to be used in the production of new beverage bottles for Mexico's soft drink industry.

Avangard Mexico collected, sorted and baled over 82,000 tons of PET in 2008, and is the exclusive supplier of the facility.

The Petstar facility utilizes two washing lines furnished by Italian equipment maker AMUT (www.amut.it), a Buhler extrusion and solid state purification process, as well as warehouses for raw material feedstocks and end-products.

An official Earth Day ribbon-cutting and inauguration took place at the plant. The agenda included a short welcoming ceremony, a speech by Governor Enrique Peņa Nieto, and a tour of the Petstar facility.
